Looking for signs of life...

NASA's Curiosity Rover will celebrate its third anniversary on Mars tonight.

The car-sized robot landed on the red planet at 1:17 am ET on August 6, 2012, and has learned a lot about its new home, including the existence of ancient water flows, Loren Grush reports on theverge.com.

Later this year, the rover could solve a big mystery that has plagued the scientific community for half a century: does Mars have methane in its atmosphere?
