The Declaration of Independence.

On July 4, 1957, at approximately 9:05 a.m., a voice beamed out of transistor radios across New York City, Michael Rosenwald reports on washingtonpost.com.

The speaker -- a young senator with a Boston accent -- began reading the Declaration of Independence, Rosenwald wrote.

It was John F. Kennedy, he added.
