Submarines are, arguably, the most important boats in the U.S. Navy, cnet.com reports.

They participate in seek-and-destroy missions, surveillance missions, and "irregular warfare."  Most importantly, though, some submarines hold half of the United States' thermonuclear warheads in secret locations throughout the globe..
