Canadian English, like other varieties of the language, is decidedly a real entity, despite a certain perception among Americans (and even some Canadians) that it is more or less an exaggerated version of Minnesota speech, peppered with “eh” and a funny way of saying “about,” Jesse Scheidlower reports on newyorker.com.
We all know about "eh" but many might a bit mystified by such other Canadianisms as "guichet," "parkade," "garbuator" or "double-double."
Fortunately, there's a new edition of the dictionary for Canadian-English that came out just earlier this year.
