Musical Moments: Boccherini, Master and Commander Final Song

Old favorites...

HMS Surprise, flying the Stars and Stripes off San Diego*

Today's Musical Moments selection is Luigi Boccherini's wonderful La Musica Notturna Delle Strade di Madrid, which is featured in the Master and Commander
Final Song video.

Both are old favorites, and I hope you'll enjoy them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l78VNe_dhAM

*HMS Surprise was built in Canada in 1970, based on the original plans HMS Rose from 1750s.

Even though she was named HMS Rose for the old ship, she has always been registered as an American vessel.

She spent the first 10 years of her life as a sailing and dockside attraction in Newport, RI.

In the 1980s and 1990s, she was a training ship in Bridgeport, CT, and I recall signs along I-95 inviting visitors to see her.

20th Century bought the ship in 2001 for Master and Commander and changed her name to HMS Surprise. In recent years, she has been part of the San Diego maritime museum.

The ship is still officially part of the Connecticut Naval Militia, according to an act by the state's general assembly in 1991. The measure has never been repealed and is still in effect.
