Shy skier...
Mama mia, what a lot of snow*
I sort of learned to ski many years ago while stationed in the Air Force in Denver.
Ed Mastoloni, Dave Schnegelberger and I became The Marx Brothers of the slopes at Arapahoe Basin, Loveland and Vail above Denver.
We weren't very good, but we had a wonderful time.
Looking back on it, we also had some close calls, but then young people have a tendency to just shrugged those off.
All this came to mind with a new article on how skiing, once a sport only for the elite in the Alps, evolved into something enjoyed by thousands around the world.
If you're interested in skiing, spend a few minutes with Andrew Denning as he traces the history of the sport and its development "for the masses": http://m.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2015/02/how-skiing-went-from-the-alps-to-the-masses/385691/?lang=en&utm_campaign=10today&flab_cell_id=2&flab_experiment_id=19&uid=72299339&utm_content=article&utm_source=email&part=s1&utm_medium=10today.0223&position=7&china_variant=False
And don't miss some very nice art work accompanying the article.
